Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen and a bacterial major caused of nosocomial infection. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) produced metabolite that well known as bacteriocin. Bacteriocin has bactericidal activity, bacteriostatic, and therapeutic effect. The purpose of this research to determine the activity of supernatant bacteriocin Lactobacillus sp in inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa and to know bacteriocin of Lactobacillus sp which has the highest activities in inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa. The kind of this research is an experiment using two methods that was agar diffusion and microdilution. The result showed that the supernatant of bacteriocin L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus, and L. casei with diameter inhibition zone 11.4 ± 0.64 mm, 11.4 ± 0.62 and 9.5 ± 0.28. MIC values of the three samples is 6.25%, MBC value of L. acidophilus, L. bulgaricus is 12.5%, and L. casei is 25%. The result showed that supernatant bacteriocin of Lactobacillus sp has activity in inhibiting the growth of P. aeruginosa with the highest activity was shown by bacteriocin L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus. Suggestion for further research to use a single or a combination of bacteriocin then tested the activities to other pathogenic bacteria.
